What is DivX VOD?
DivX Video-on-Demand (VOD) is a digital delivery service that allows you to download and enjoy DVD-quality DivX movies without having to go to the video store. You can rent or buy DivX VOD movies to play on your PC or your TV.
Where can I watch DivX VOD movies?
You can play DivX VOD movies on your PC or on your TV. You will need a DivX Certified DVD player to watch the movie on your TV. Check out the growing selection of DivX Certified video products at http://www.divx.com/hardware/.
Will all DivX VOD movies play on PC and TV?
No, only DivX VOD movies created specifically for the TV can be watched on TV. All DivX VOD movies, however, will play on the PC.
How do I play DivX VOD movies on my TV?
After purchasing your DivX Certified DVD player, use your remote control to find the 8-digit code in the device setup menu. Visit https://vod.divx.com to enter the code and create an account. After creating your account, you will be prompted to download a small activation video. Download and copy the activation video to a CD and play the CD in your DivX Certified DVD player. This step authorizes you to play DivX VOD movies on your TV using your newly registered DivX Certified DVD player.
Does my DivX Certified DVD player need an Internet connection to play DivX movies?
No, you don’t need an Internet connection to play DivX movies on your TV with a DivX Certified DVD player. Your PC, however, requires an Internet connection to download the movie before taking it to your player.
Can I play a DivX VOD movie I rent or buy on my computer and on my DivX Certified
device?
Yes, you may watch DivX movies on all the registered devices you own.
Can I save my username and password so I do not have to enter it into the DivX
Player every time?
Yes. After logging into the DivX Player, select "Options" in the drop-down menu, click "User Tab" and check the "Save User Name and Password" box.
Will disconnecting from the Internet during download break the movie?
No, when a download is interrupted, it remembers where it left off. The next time you open the movie, it will resume downloading if you’re connected to the Internet. When prompted, should I either "Open" or "Save As" after paying for a video?
Try "Open from current location" and click ok. If this doesn't launch the DivX Player and start the download, right click on the link again to download your movie and choose “Save Target As.” Save this .tix file to your C:\Program Files\DivX\Movies folder. Then open this file in your theDivX Player.
What do I need to watch VOD movies on a TV?
Watching VOD movies on a TV requires a DivX Certified DVD player in addition to the above. With a DivX Certified DVD player, you can take the same file that plays on their PC, copy it to a CD or DVD and play it on your DivX Certified DVD player. (Most DivX videos are so highly
compressed they will fit on a single 700MB CD.)
What is progressive download?
Progressive download is an advanced feature of the DivX Player. The DivX Player estimates your average bandwidth and allows you to start playing your video while it's downloading. It allows you to do this by determining that your playback speed is slower than your download speed
and/or you have downloaded enough of the video that your playback won’t catch up with your download. So, if you have a broadband Internet connection, you may only have to wait a few minutes to start playing back your 90-minute video! And DivX VOD is not streaming, so you only
have to download the file once. Once you complete download, you don’t have to wait for the video to be pushed to your computer again or be interrupted with variable bandwidth speed and the annoyance of buffering, because you will be playing your video from your hard drive!
Is the downloadable movie being streamed? Can I download a movie to watch later? What if my Internet connection fails during download? Do I have to start it over again from the beginning? Can I copy a downloadable movie and play on another computer, such as my work computer? Will full length (90 minute) downloadable movie fit on a standard CD? How do I burn a DivX film to a CD? How do I burn to a DVD? Will every downloadable movie play back on a registered DivX-certified device? Say I had a collection of downloadable movies on CDs, and then purchased a new player device, would I need to make a new set of CDs in order to watch that content on my new player?
No. Movies can be watched so soon after the download starts thanks to the DivX Player's progressive playback technology, which can start playing files before the download is complete. Streaming is not used because it sacrifices quality.
Yes. You may download an entire video and watch it later. Unlike streaming, where the file must be streamed at the time of viewing, you can play a DivX VOD file anytime you want without having to download it again.
No. Next time you open the file, it will automatically begin downloading from the point where it left off.
Yes. Your downloadable movies are tied to your user account, not a computer or device. So you may register multiple computers and devices to your account and play your content on all of them.
Yes. DivX compression is so powerful that a full length, DVD-quality 90 minute video will fit on one regular 700 MB CD-ROM. If the downloadable movie is larger than 700 MB, however, you will have to copy it to a DVD before playing on your DivX Certified DVD player.
Some movies are too large to fit on a CD; DVD-R or DVD-RW player are your best bet to burn files.
No, some videos are intended for PC playback only. When you choose your movie, look for the symbol that tells you whether you can play it on TV with a DivX Certified device.
No. As long as you paid for the movies, the exact same CDs will work in your new player as soon as you register the device.
How do I know a DVD player is DivX-certified? How do I get a DivX-certified player? Is the quality of your downloadable comparable to that of a DVD? Once I have a DivX-certified DVD player, how do I get started?
Look for the logo and remember DivX's slogan, "if it doesn't say it, it won't play it!"
